I can use place value when describing and representing multi-digit numbers in a variety of ways, including with base ten materials

GRADE 2

I can read, represent, compose, and decompose whole numbers up to and including 200, using a variety of tools and strategies, and describe various ways they are used in everyday life

I can compare and order whole numbers up to and including 200

I can estimate the number of objects in collections of up to 200 and verify their estimates by counting

I can count to 200, including by 20s, 25s, and 50s, using a variety of tools and strategies

I can describe even or odd numbers

Try to help your child consolidate this learning at home by having them skip count while waiting for the light to change in the car, while waiting for their sibling to get dressed, and while waiting for commercials to be over.  When shopping and looking at prices, ask your child to round the dollar amounts to the nearest 10.  When a number comes up in a book, on the tv, or in an address, ask them to tell you which digit is in the 100's column, or 10's column, or 1's column and what it's value is. Below are a few online games:

In language we reviewed common and proper nouns and now are working on sentences. We are learning about proper punctuation, different sentence types and how to join two thoughts together using conjunctions.

WELCOME TO GR. 2/3

It’s back to school time again and I'm looking forward to a year of learning, fun and adventures!

Here are a few notes to help the year run smoothly:

School ends at 3:45pm

Lunch - Please send a lunch (no soda pop) that should take no longer than 15 minutes to eat. Please provide your child with 2 small healthy snacks to be eaten during morning and afternoon snack time.

** Reminder: We are a nut free classroom **

Agenda - Please read & initial the agenda every night. Feel free to write any questions or comments you have in this book in the space provided. Important notes will also be sent home using the homework folder and/or agenda.

Headphones - these are used for computers. Please provide your child with a pair. Over the head ones work best and they can be found at most dollar stores.

Indoor Shoes - Please provide your child with a pair of indoor shoes they can keep at school. Make sure they are shoes they can put on independently.

Change in end of day routine - Any changes must be sent to the office in writing (note/email) or a phone call. If possible, please do this by 3:00 as it's very busy at the end of the day in the office.

In the classroom - I would appreciate any donations of …

  • Boxes of tissues for the class

  • Large Ziploc Bags

  • Disinfectant Wipes (ie: Lysol) as we have NO sink in the class

**Please label ALL school items - school bag, shoes, jackets, hoodies, etc.**   You would be amazed how quickly the lost & found articles pile up.

“Not Mine” owned everything in last year’s lost & found.

I have this class blog that I update periodically throughout the year. There will be a note in the student agendas letting you know when to look at it.

Please be sure to check out the St. Bernard School website.      https://ber.ocsb.ca/
